Secrets of Japanese Timber Joinery

Richard Maddock

A talk by Richard Maddock unlocking some of the traditions and innovations of Japanese joinery. Richard Maddock is an architect from Tasmania, working at Foster + Partners in London. He recently completed a Churchill Fellowship researching traditional timber joinery in Japan. This presentation will reveal the secrets and structural wonder of a style of construction that is typified by avoiding the use of glue or metal fasteners.
